Closure of Bubwith Sport & Leisure Centre

As of midnight on 17th March, the Bubwith Leisure & Sports Centre will effectively close, the officers of the Bubwith Leisure & Sports Centre have discussed the situation this morning in the light of the considerable change in government advice last night, and we feel we must take the lead in the best interests of the majority.

The Under 5’s will be following separate government guidance.

Thank you for your patience.

A Spring Message from our Chair

We are delighted to find that there is now considerably increased interest in the Leisure Centre facilities since the major upgrade to the hall in Summer 2019. Bookings for parties and private functions have snowballed.
We now have new Family Disco’s, arranged by Vicki, two down so far and plenty more planned for the year to come, see our calendar.
The bar is open on Monday and Friday evenings, come down and have a social chat and a drink, Paul is sure to make you very welcome. On Mondays there are Ballroom and Latin dance classes courtesy of Sophie so you may hear the strains of music in the background.
On Fridays we have a mixed bag, The first Friday of the month is Quiz night, the third Friday is Bingo. Why not give them a try, the Bingo jackpot this month is £125! Cinema is coming soon to another Friday evening, just a few technicalities to sort out first. Or you might like to organise something on the theme of Games. How about a Beetle Drive, or maybe whist, bridge, dominoes, canasta etc. We will be glad to host it, have a word if you would like to organise, email or phone. We would love to hear from you, join in the fun.

COVID – 19

  • The health and well-being of our users is Bubwith Leisure & Sports centre’s highest priority. We are reviewing our cleaning regime to make sure we have the highest standards and can protect all our users.

  • For the duration of the COVID-19 epidemic, any user who has an upcoming booking can rest assured that they can either postpone their event to a later date, or cancel within 72 hours of the event, and obtain a full refund of their deposit.

Phase Two of the refurbishment of the Bubwith Sports and Leisure Centre is underway!

October 21st, 2019: Phase Two is under way, with our first grant application already in. We plan to raise the roof of the remainder of the building and refit upstairs completely, with installation of a lift to improve access. It all depends on finding the funds, but we are very grateful to the local support already expressed.

In the meantime we welcome North Duffield Dragons football club’s under 13s team who have started playing at Bubwith. The committee would welcome a volunteer coming forward to organise football matters, this would be a great help. We are now the new home of the 64-piece Kaleidoscope Orchestra who practice here each Thursday evening.

We are also looking to host events and would like to recruit another volunteer to plan events, we have just been approached to hold a business conference of 150 people or so. So the enhanced hall facilities are already coming into use. Bookmark the website to keep up to date. Would you be interested? Give us a call on 01575 288299 or email

Kaleidoscope Orchestra

We welcome the Kaleidoscope Orchestra to Bubwith Sports and Leisure Centre! They will be holding rehearsals in the main hall every Thursday evenings during term times. Take a look at their Facebook page for more details.

The Grand Opening of the Refurbished Hall!

Well what a wonderful occasion. Harry Gration from BBC Look North came along to open the big event on Friday, 4th October. The hall looked amazing and everyone agreed with the comments from Harry Gration himself and from our Chairman Dr Richard Moore and Barry Carpus Trustee and Secretary, that as a Committee, they had come a long, long way. Through sourcing of funding and overseeing contractors to the transformation of the hall at the Bubwith Sports and Leisure Centre by installing a new roof, new heating, led lighting and acoustics and of course by adding floor to ceiling windows to let in natural light. It was noted that this was Phase 1 of 2 and that the Committee were striving to get the second phase – entrance hall, toilets and refiguring the layout of the upstairs areas – looking equally good as soon as possible!

Truly Scrumptious from Selby provided the afternoon tea, Harry Collins sang as Feathersteps School of Dancing under the guidance of Sophie Brooke opened the event with a lively Charleston number ‘Putting on the Ritz’. The Short Mat bowls group were asked to set up a small demonstration down one side of the hall, this was received warmly. Barry’s Bar was open throughout the event and our steward Paul White with the help of committee members Steve and Anne Young and Shaun Thompson helped to keep everything running like clockwork!

Hayley from Evolution Dance came along and put on a great demonstration from her dance pupils – it was so lovely to see young children dancing and having fun.

As the afternoon progressed, the Blue Flame Disco provided excellent dancing music and The Hogman Company provided a delicious hog roast supper.

The evening finished off with Quingo – our Quiz Night run by Andy Milson and his assistant Ruby. A great atmosphere and a lovely way to finish off the day!
